Iray Shaders and "older" models

Hi,
I was just wondering if Iray Shaders (mainly the Uber Shader) could be added to models older than V4?
I've just downloaded Maya doll, and I'm not really getting anywhere. Plus, I don'thave anything older than V4.
Because Maya Doll isn't a product of Daz3D, I was wondering if Iray Shaders would work on models like V1/M1 and V2/M2.
I don't even know if Daz Artists use the original Michael or Victoria models, and I don't think Daz sell them anymore. So, if anyone could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated :)
Thank you

There shouldn't be a problem applyiong the Iray Uber Shader to older models, there's nothing about the shaders that requires the figure to be weight-mapped.
I just made this render with Aiko 3 http://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/135101
I used Jm HumanShaders, http://www.daz3d.com/jm-humanshader-for-iray. Ive also used them on m3 before.
I love using new shaders on old content.
Like Victoria 4 with new HDRI, Iray skin shaders, the works: http://willbear.deviantart.com/art/Victoria-4-Iray-555463203
V4 muscle maps and an octopus from 12+ years ago, Iray: http://willbear.deviantart.com/art/Visible-woman-and-octopus-closeup-596891186
Of late I am not into getting older textures because they tend not to work well with iRay or SuperFly. I rather use iRay or SuperFly for my renders so old textures that depend on shaders for the 3delight or Firefly do not work well for me.
I have wondered what are the easier ways of converting 3delight or Firefly to iRay or SuperFly.
Wow.
I love your use of lighting (and Aiko's hair).
I completely forgot that I have Aiko 3 (probably because she isn't in my main library).
V4's skin looks great.
The octopus has an interesting texture.
Thanks for the help.
I've gone back to Maya doll and the Uber shader is working. I just have to find the time (and free space) to render her in Iray.
Okay, I am interested in this due to the need for a large crowd and not needing a high level of detail. So last weekend I took a little time to play with this and here is what I have.
I started with Aiko and the map which came with Aiko 3 Morphs and Maps. that is the set of Aiko's on the Right.
This is a Daz Skin so the Lighting Model isn't set to Plastic for everything.
First I just ran the Iray Base at it and that didn't really get me what I wanted, though it did render a bit better.
Then on another Thread I read, timmins.william say he used a optimized base as a Reference. (That is why V7 is over there on the Left with the IG Iray Skin)
So I did some fancy dancing (translate that to Cut, Paste, and imaging file wrangling) and then put the Original images on the skin. (that is the one with IG Setting only)
I used CrazyBump to make an Aiko 3 Specularity map, Displacement map, as well as a Normal and Occlusion maps. I didn't try to tweak any of the settings, just used the defaults.
I then added these images to the places where InaneGlory had those maps and I tweaked the colors so the skin moved back to a lighter tone.
So here is a Trick I didn't think would work, I copied that base skin over to SP3, swapped out the images, and Poof! I had an Iray Compatible Skin for Stephanie 3. (the model on the far right.)
So that is the Right Side of the image, what about the Left side?
On this side I started with a Poser based skin (so the Lighting model for everything was set to Plastic). So I converted this two ways, First just the Iray Base push on the Skin and then I Adjusted the Lighting Model before Adding the iRay Base. (yes it does make a difference if you take the time to sent the Lighting model up, for a quick convert, if you are going to do heavy modification, then you might not care.)
Then I did the same thing with with using the IG Setting from the First set and swapping the Diffuse Maps and and the last image on the left, adds Specularity maps, a Normal Map, and a few other things. They are all wearing the S.P.V. Tactical Suit, with an Iray Cloth shader. That is Rogue Red on Stephanie 3. Oh and yes, I did convert the hair as well.
OH the Iray play havoc with the Reflection on the eyes and I dumped it down to .25 and that seem to have dealt with the Cloudy eyes issue, and still give us a live reflection map. I think the issue there is too many highly reflective surfaces with White as the Reflection color, but more testing will tell me if I am right.
I did try V3Digitimes Iray Converter for Generation 4, buut it is made for V4, M4 and K4, because it makes calls to specific Surface names.
I have picked up Jm HumanShaders, http://www.daz3d.com/jm-humanshader-for-iray and I will be trying it this week to see how it works.
I hope this helps those wanting to use older models in new scenes.

You might check out Predatrons catalogue as well. There are many Lo rez models there. Animals and humans.
Below is an iray render of Loik by Nursoda (I bought it over 6 years ago) wearing clothes from
Enchanted Forest: Kitsune for M4 by sixus1. Clothes converted with CrossDresser.
As usual I have applied http://www.daz3d.com/jm-humanshader-for-iray to the skin of Loik.
Nice! I think I may have to invest in crossdresser as well.
Thanks. Not all clothes converts properly with CrossDresser, especially between two such different figures like Michael 4 and Loik,
but I like, that at least some of the conversions are usable. Loik does not have many cloth items available.
Two more renders with different poses.
I'm new to Daz Studio but from what I can tell, if it has a surface it can benefit from Iray. This is my first full scene render, I used V4 with a bit newer skin. I added Iray shaders to basically everything in the scene. That made a pretty big difference.
She looks great! Thats a really nice render. I still think that v4 is totally relevent in this v7 era.
The maps from older stuff may be too low res to be useful, but the geometry should still be good.
Heres a V4 render that I made.
This thread got me thinking about some of my old favorites, so here's Blackhearted's Irina 2 for Stephanie 3 Petite. Yeah, some of the joint bends on the old gen 3 are showing their age, but the textures are still looking good with a little help from Sickleyield & Fuelings Beautiful SKins for Iray.
Another "older" figure - Cookie, hopefully will appear in Daz shop transfered from RuntimeDNA store.
She is wearing clothes from http://www.daz3d.com/aussie-girl-outfit converted with CrossDresser.
Another iray render of Cookie wearing her own MaryJane shoes and Jasmine hair
and also Fashion Office Suite for Vicky 4 by Supernova converted with CrossDresser.
Two iray renders of http://www.daz3d.com/aucasaurusdr
The first one only with iray Uber shader applied.
The second one with http://www.daz3d.com/jm-humanshader-for-iray applied to the skin.
Very different look.
Those all look really good. Heres one. A3 uses JM Human Shader and her outfit uses DA Iray Fabrics, http://www.daz3d.com/da-iray-fabric-shaders-leather-and-cloth. For the Tawhawk I believe I used the straight uber shader. I may have used something else for the saddle but I dont remember what it was.
Here's Decoco in Iray...
Basically just tweaked Iray Uber on everything.
Where is she found?

So I've done some more noodling and found discovered an issue with the eyes if you use the JM Human Shader special eye tools, as regard to Generation 3 and prior and non-human models. On A3 and V3L75 I had no issues with the Cornea, Iris and Pupil shaders. But when I use the 'JMHS 00 Eye Surface Shader' and the Whites they became invisible. In the process I also fond out why you loose the reflection on some Eyes and not on others. A3 reflection are on the Cornea, but on the V3 Skin I was testing with the Reflection was on the Iris not the Cornea.
The Reflection maps on V3’s eyes are not on the Cornea but on the Irises. So the Cornea’s reflection is washing out the reflection on the Iris.
I also learned that the utility is wiping the V4 Cornea reflection out if you use the Cornera Shader, because some people put that on the Cutout. If you are seeing White tears, use the EyeSurface on the tears, it will make them clear.
Changing the Glossy color on the Corneas from 1/1/1 to .54/.54/.54 will give you the Reflection back. But notice the light in the foreground are reflecting off the Cornea and it overrides the textures reflection.
Next issue: I wanted to start with a fresh skin for Aiko, with no makeup, The Morphs and Maps all have makeup and lip color. So I took Hiro 3’s map, replaced Brows and Lashes with those of Aiko 3 Maps, then did a little color magic with the lips to make them seem more natural. And this what it looked like under 3Delight.
Once having it as I liked it, I convert it to Iray using the JM Human Shader. I also converted an old A3 Freebie, Whisper, with its default map and use Metal Shader on the ring
So here is the two other conversions I did earlier. The one on the Left was hand converted and tweaked with IG V7 Iray Skin, the Right was converted using the shader, both of these have Specularity maps, in addition. The Akio 3 in the middle has the the blank canvas skin I have yet to added the Specularity Maps.
This is a WIP.

Thank you for these tips, Haslor. I have not used eye shaders from JM Human Shader at all, because I could not get any good results, so far.
That came out quite lovely!
How hard would it be to weight map an old figure?
Depends on the figure and how accurate you want.
Older models look awesome in Iray!
I have been able to dig back as far as 2004 for props and things.
Here is LLF's Cookie in Iray.
Working on a freebie Shader set for her and her crew.
